Nov. 27, 2017 – Vaccaro Law Bureau is proud to serve again as chief organizing sponsor of the 3rd edition of the International Friendly Rounds for the 41st Telders Moot Court in International Law. Administrator of the event is Prof. G.M. Vaccaro-Incisa, assisted by Mr. Piero Gregori.

The event, to which a Symposium on Current Issues in International Law is associated, will take place on 10-12 May, 2018, at the European University Institute (EUI) of Florence.

[ACADEMIA] May 2018 – Vaccaro-Incisa invited to speak at Jean Monnet EUCROSS conference organized by KU Leuven in Hong Kong

May 2018 – Dr. Vccaro-Incisa has been invited to speak at the conference on The EU and its Partners in Global Governance: Trade, Investment, Tax and Sustainable Development,  jointly organized, within the Jean Monnet Network ‘EUCROSS’, by the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (University KU Leuven) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to be held on 14-15 June 2018 in Hong Kong.

Dr. Vaccaro-Incisa will present the preliminary results of an ongoing research flowing from the publication, in February, of a Columbia Law School CCSI FDI Perspective, co-authored with Professor Julien Chaisse. The presentation will focus on The EU investment court and UNCITRAL’s attempt to reform ISDS: a rocky path, and a fresh proposal.

Apr. 18, 2018 – As the academic director of the International Business & Law (IBL) double degree program, and organizer of its “Masters’ Lectures” series, Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa, has invited Dr. Ximena Hindrichs, Deputy Registrar of the United Nations’ International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), and Dr. Guillaume Areou, Partner at Reed Smith’s Paris office, to speak, on Apr. 18th, at 6pm, at IESEG Business School in Paris, about ‘international business and disputes at sea’.

[PRO BONO] Mar. 2018 – Vaccaro-Incisa serving as arbitrator and cross-examination instructor for the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court (DE)

March 15-17, 2018 – Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa will serve as arbitrator for the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court, organized by McDermott Will and Emery Law Firm, along several of the most renowned practitioners in the field.

Along Dr. Sabine Konrad, Dr. Arne Fuchs, Dr. Lucie Gerhardt and Mr. Gavan Griffith, Dr. Vaccaro-Incisa will also participate, as instructor and expert-witness, at the cross-examination course held at McDermott local office, organized for the moot court’s top qualifying teams.

[PUBLICATION] Feb. 12, 2018 – Columbia Law School publishes a FDI Perspective authored by Prof. Chaisse and Vaccaro-Incisa

Feb. 12, 2018 – Columbia Law School Research Center on Sustainable Investment published today the Columbia FDI Perspective no. 219, jointly authored by Prof. Julien Chaisse (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa on The EU investment court: challenges on the path ahead.

Perspective topic: “The bilateral investment court system the EU buttressed since 2015 risks losing momentum in the face of complex internal and external challenges. This Perspective weighs these challenges against the recent UNCITRAL decision to address ISDS reform, providing for a better framework to seek for shared global solutions to long-expressed concerns.”

This prestigious short publication is known for the difficulty of outlining a policy problem and a possible solution in the limited space of 800 words, using a language possibly accessible to the wider public.

[ACADEMIA] Jan. 25, 2018 – Speaking at the ICC YAF meeting in Frankfurt (DE)

Jan. 25, 2018 – Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa has been invited to speak at the Young Arbitrators’ Forum (YAF) of Paris’ International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) organized by Noerr LLP in Frankfurt themed: “Farewell 2017 – The year in review“.

Tasked with reviewing international investment arbitration, Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa will focus in particular on the jurisdictional decisions rendered by six tribunals in the proceedings brought by Ukrainian investors against Russia under the 1998 Russia-Ukraine BIT in connections with their investments in Crimea.

Nov. 22, 2017 – IBL inaugural lecture a.y. 2017-2018 with Mr. Luca Arnaboldi (Paris, FR)

Nov. 22, 2017 – Within the framework of the International Business & Law double degree program, on Nov. 22nd, at 6pm, at IESEG School of Management in Paris, Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa, director of the program, will moderate an interview with Mr. Luca Arnaboldi, Carnelutti Law Firm managing partner.

In pursuing the spirit of the program, the interview aims at converging the fields of business and law, by letting future managers getting acquainted with international law experts and their work since the time of their studies.

Jun. 15, 2017 – Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa has been invited at the 5th Biennial Conference of the Asian International Economic Law Network, hosted at the Law School of prestigious Xiamen University (Fujian) on 15-17 June 2017,under the eminent organizing auspices of Prof. Junji Nakagawa (Tokyo University; to the right in the picture) and Prof. Huaqun Zeng (Xiamen University; to the left in the picture).

Prof. Vaccaro-Incisa will present his research on: ‘The case of China and ASEAN practice on objective criteria and ratione legis condition in the definition of investment‘.

Participation to this academic gathering is particularly significant, as attended by several key experts in the field on International Economic Law in East and Southeast Asia.

May 19, 2017 – Professor Vaccaro-Incisa has been invited to speak at the conference “The 60th annivrsary of the Treaty of Rome – EU and global perspectives”, hosted by the EU Office in Hong Kong and Macao at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on May 19-20, 2017.
